Uzumaki: Unraveling The Chaos
Uzumaki, the new anime adaption based off of Junji Ito’s manga of the same title has been causing a huge uproar online. And rightfully so, but before we get into it, let us first identify the culprit responsible for this madness.
Adult Swim Can’t Seem To Float
In 2019 Adult Swim announced to the world that it was adapting Uzumaki into an anime.
Fans of this spectacular manga were excited to see their favorite series come to life.
Sadly it had to be delayed numerous times, one being the pandemic, and the other, a bunch of production challenges.
Everything Is Going Good
Now let’s get back to the meat and potatoes of the whole reason I wrote this blog.
Here I am tuning in to episode 1 after I heard about what transpired with the anime series, and of course I am pleasantly surprised like everybody else who saw the first episode.
The animators did an awesome job, showcasing their meticulous efforts in trying to bring about the feeling and essence of the masterpiece that is Junji Ito’s work of art.
The animation was smooth, nothing felt static nor dull, and everything felt eerie as if something bad would happen at every turn, constantly keeping you on your toes.
Then episode 2 came along…
Scam Of The Year?
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPEND!?
The moment the episode started something felt off. I do not have trained eyes like professional animators do, but even I can tell I was looking at garbage, even if it was a subtle feeling. I’m not one to spoil anything, whether it’s video games, TV shows, or even books. So I’ll keep it short.
First thing I noticed after a few minutes went by was the lack of fluidity of the motions of peoples gait’s as they walked the streets or wherever setting they happened to be at. So as to show just how still everything really was, it’s as if someone cut out the shape of the figures in the manga and just attached them to the anime, imitating movements like some sort of puppet show from the 1800’s. It was that BAD.
So What In Fact Did Happen?
The reason for this drop in quality, apparently, is because of a sudden switch in animation studios during production.
Episode 1 was animated by Studio Fukagu, while Episode 2 was animated by Akatsuki Studio. Rumor has it episode 4 is animated by Studio Fukagu and the quality will be back to how it was in the beginning. But the damage is already done. Will I be continuing this series? I honestly don’t know… maybe.
